A garbage collector is someone who works either for the municipal government or for a private waste management company. Garbage collectors usually work in pairs, picking up and removing waste, recyclable goods, or yard debris from residential neighborhoods, commercial business centers, and public parks. The job function is to collect and dump refuse or recyclable materials from containers into trucks. Some Garbage collectors drive the trucks while others do the pick-up procedures.
To become a garbage collector you would need to have passed high school and have a high school diploma. This job also requires a commercial driver's license. Anyone applying for a position as a garbage collector must have a clean license without any DUIs or accidents. You will also receive on the job training from an experienced worker to develop the necessary basic skills. The best way to begin a career as a garbage man is to contact a garbage company for a job application. They usually require a background check and a current commercial driver's license if you want to drive the garbage truck. Most wast management workers make up to $11 to $20 per hour or $26,000 to $46,000 per year.
Being a garbage man is considered a low-stress job with good work-life balance and solid prospects to improve you could get promoted and earn a higher salary. However the hours are pretty long, workers lost their privileges for sick days, personal days, holidays, and vacation time. They also USED to have reasonable hours, however now it is 6 days a week, and anywhere from 14 hours to 16 hours.
Personally, I'm not very interested in this job, but I just wanted to blog about it!
