New York University (NYU)

New York University is a private research university based in New York City. NYU was founded in 1831 by Albert Gallatin as an institution to "admit based upon merit rather than birthright or social class", NYU's historical campus is in Greenwich Village. NYU is the largest independent research university in the United States. The average cost before aid is $73,566, and the average cost after aid is $40,336. The acceptance rate of NYU is 28%, and the graduation rate is 84%. NYU has nonetheless forged a strong reputation as a world-class institution. It's ranked 39th in the world overall, up four places this year, and comes 31st in the academic reputation survey and 29th in the survey of employers. NYU is a really great school if you want to be exposed to some outrageously smart professors, grad students, and peers. It is also an amazing hub of cultural resources in the city. NYU community is very savvy and sensitive to the zeitgeist, so it's a great place for someone who wants to stay on the cutting edge.

To get into NYU you will need a GPA of 3.69, NYU requires you to be above average in your high school class. You will need at least a mix of A's and B's, with more A's than B's. You can compensate for a lower GPA with harder classes, like AP or IB classes. The average ACT score at NYU is 32. This score makes NYU strongly competitive for ACT scores. The 25th percentile ACT score is 30, and the 75th percentile ACT score is 34. The average composite score is 1440, with the math section at 740, and the average reading&writing at 700. The 25th percentile composite score is 1370, and the math section at 690, and the reading&writing at 660.

NYU is the epitome of an institution wholly concerned with the global outlook. The student body is wonderfully diverse, the campus is integrated into one of the most influential cities in the modern world, and the school boasts one of the best study-abroad programs in the nation. The most popular majors at NYU include Visual and Performing Arts; Social Sciences; Business, Management, Marketing, and Related Support Services; Liberal Arts and Sciences, General Studies and Humanities; and Health Professions and Related Program.

New York University reported 1,455 safety-related incidents involving students on or near campus or other NYU affiliated properties in 2018. Of the 4,210 colleges and universities that reported crime and safety data, 4,189 of them reported fewer incidents than this.
