The University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin)

The University of Texas at Austin is a public research university in Austin, Texas, and the flagship institution of the University of Texas System. UT Austin provides a high-quality education at a lower than average cost than other schools of similar quality. This results in good value for the educational dollar and earns UT Austin a #482 ranking on the Overall Best Colleges for the Money list. The average cost before aid is $26,506, and the average cost after aid is $16,960. The acceptance rate is 36%, and the graduation rate is 79%.

To get into UT Austin you would need a GPA of 3.83, UT Austin requires you to be near the top of your class, and well above average. You'll need mostly A's ideally with several AP or IB classes to help show your preparation at a college level. If you're junior or senior, your GPA is hard to change from this point on. The average ACT score is 30, the 25th percentile ACT score is 27, and the 75th percentile ACT score is 33. In other words, a 27 places you below average, while a 33 will move you up to above average. There is no absolute ACT requirement at UT Austin, but they really want to see at least a 27 to have a chance at being considered. The average composite SAT score is 1355, with the math section at 685, and the reading&writing section at 670. The 25th percentile composite SAT score is 1240, with the math section at 610, and the reading&writing at 670.

Some of the most popular majors at UT Austin were engineering, social sciences, and business, management, marketing, and related support services, according to U.S. News data. In all, the university offers more than 170 fields of study to its undergraduate students, according to the UT Austin website. UT Austin is known for its unique history of traditions and legacy of athletics achievements across all sports, particularly in football. University teams have earned 51 national championships since 1949, more than 500 student-athletes compete in 20 sports programs, and the UT athletes won 13 medals at the Rio Olympics in 2016.
