University of Washington

The University of Washington is a public research university in Seattle, Washington. Founded in 1861, Washington is one of the oldest universities on the West Coast; it was established in downtown Seattle approximately a decade after the city's founding to aid its economic development. The average cost before aid is $27,638, and the average cost after aid is $12,037. The acceptance rate is 46%, and the graduation rate is 84%. The campus provides a high-quality education at a lower than average cost that other schools of similar quality. This results in good value for the educational dollar and earns UW Seattle a #496 ranking on the overall best colleges for the money list.

The University of Washington is considered very competitive, however, students whose grades or test scores are slightly below average shouldn't give up hope just yet. For Washington residents, the average GPA is 3.72-3.95. The average ACT score for Washington residents is 27-33, The overall SAT score is 1240-1440. However, I am not a Washing resident so these wouldn't apply to me. The average GPA for nonresidents is 3.86-3.92. And the average ACT score for nonresidents is 27-33, and the average SAT score is 1220-1440.

As the flagship institution of the six public universities in Washington state, it is known for its medical, engineering, and scientific research as well as its highly competitive computer science and engineering programs. The most popular majors at the University of Washington include Social Sciences; Business, Management, Marketing, and Related Support Services; Biological and Biomedical Sciences; Engineering; and Computer and Information Sciences and Support Services. 

The University of Washington - Seattle Campus reported 713 safety-related incidents involving students while on campus in 2018. Of the 4,210 colleges and universities that reported crime and safety data, 4,134 of them reported fewer incidents than this.

The University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin)

The University of Texas at Austin is a public research university in Austin, Texas, and the flagship institution of the University of Texas System. UT Austin provides a high-quality education at a lower than average cost than other schools of similar quality. This results in good value for the educational dollar and earns UT Austin a #482 ranking on the Overall Best Colleges for the Money list. The average cost before aid is $26,506, and the average cost after aid is $16,960. The acceptance rate is 36%, and the graduation rate is 79%.

To get into UT Austin you would need a GPA of 3.83, UT Austin requires you to be near the top of your class, and well above average. You'll need mostly A's ideally with several AP or IB classes to help show your preparation at a college level. If you're junior or senior, your GPA is hard to change from this point on. The average ACT score is 30, the 25th percentile ACT score is 27, and the 75th percentile ACT score is 33. In other words, a 27 places you below average, while a 33 will move you up to above average. There is no absolute ACT requirement at UT Austin, but they really want to see at least a 27 to have a chance at being considered. The average composite SAT score is 1355, with the math section at 685, and the reading&writing section at 670. The 25th percentile composite SAT score is 1240, with the math section at 610, and the reading&writing at 670.

Some of the most popular majors at UT Austin were engineering, social sciences, and business, management, marketing, and related support services, according to U.S. News data. In all, the university offers more than 170 fields of study to its undergraduate students, according to the UT Austin website. UT Austin is known for its unique history of traditions and legacy of athletics achievements across all sports, particularly in football. University teams have earned 51 national championships since 1949, more than 500 student-athletes compete in 20 sports programs, and the UT athletes won 13 medals at the Rio Olympics in 2016.

University of Illinois--Urbana-Champaign (UIUC)

The University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign is a great institution for higher education. While it is true that UIUC is known for its engineering and business programs, exceptional professors and other resources are available across the board. Alongside stellar education, campus life at the university is also amazing. UIUC is a public land grant research university in Illinois in the twin cities of Champaign and Urbana. It is the flagship institution of the University of Illinois system and was founded in 1867. The average cost before aid is $30,102 and the average cost after aid is $18,377. The acceptance rate is 62%, and the graduation rate is 85%. UIUC is just another large state school, for the programs in which UIUC is ranked highly, it's very well reputed among the people in that area or following that area.

To get into UIUC you will need an average GPA of 3.83, which means UIUC requires you to be near the top of your class, and well above average. The average ACT score composite at UIUC is a 29. The 25th percentile ACT score is 26, and the 75th percentile ACT score is 32. In other words, 26 places you below average, while a 32 will move you up to above average. The average composite SAT score is 1350, with the math section at 700, and the reading&writing section at 650. The 25th percentile SAT composite is 1220, with the math section at 620, and the reading&writing at 600.

What's unique about the campus of UIUC is that everything is so close and compact. Classes, residence halls, bars, and restaurants are all within walking distance. The size of the campus is a great attribute. UIUC comprises 15 colleges and schools. Its school of information sciences, college of engineering and department of psychology are among the best in the country. The school's college of business, college of education, and college of law are also highly ranked. University of North Carolina--Chapel Hill (UNC)

The University of North Carolina--Chapel Hill is a public institution that was founded in 1789, and located in North Carolina. The flagship of the University of North Carolina system, it is considered a public ivy, or a university. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 19,117, its setting is suburban, and the campus size is 729 acres. It utilizes a semester-based academic calendar. The average cost before aid is $23,811, and the average cost after aid is $14,163. The acceptance rate is 24%, and the graduation rate is 90%. UNC is unique in that is has the cosmopolitan feel, diversity, and high academics standards of a private university despite being a public school. Though the majority of students are from North Carolina, it doesn't have a local college/high school part two atmosphere that some state schools have.

Getting into UNC-Chapel Hill takes hard work, last year only 21.9% of applicants were admitted. UNC-Chapel Hill received 43,473 applications last year and admitted 9,524 students. If you are a North Carolina resident, you're in a bit of luck, because UNC-Chapel Hill has a preference for in-state students. You will need exceptionally good grades to get into UNC at Chapel Hill. The average high school GPA of the admitted freshman class at UNC at Chapel Hill was 4.6 on the 4.0 scale indicating that primarily A students are accepted and ultimately attend. UNC-Chapel Hill requires either an SAT or ACt for all first-year applicants and sophomore transfer applicants. Please note that the writing portion of either the SAT or ACT is no longer required nor recommended. Additionally, they don't have a preference for one test over the other, so you may submit either score or both. The average ACT score is 30. The 25th percentile ACT score is 27, and the 75th percentile ACT score is 33. In other words, a 27 places you below average, while a 33 will move ou up to above average. There's no absolute ACT requirement at UNC, but they really want to see at least a 27 to have a chance. The average composite for the SAT is 1395, the average reading&writing section is 690, and the average math section is 705. The 75th percentile composite score is 1470, the reading&writing is 730, and the 75th percentile math section is 760.

UNC-Chapel Hill reported 1,041 safety-related incidents involving students on or near campus or other UNC-Chapel Hill affiliated properties in 2018. Of the 4,210 colleges and universities that reported crime and safety data, 4,170 of them reported fewer incidents than this.

New York University (NYU)

New York University is a private research university based in New York City. NYU was founded in 1831 by Albert Gallatin as an institution to "admit based upon merit rather than birthright or social class", NYU's historical campus is in Greenwich Village. NYU is the largest independent research university in the United States. The average cost before aid is $73,566, and the average cost after aid is $40,336. The acceptance rate of NYU is 28%, and the graduation rate is 84%. NYU has nonetheless forged a strong reputation as a world-class institution. It's ranked 39th in the world overall, up four places this year, and comes 31st in the academic reputation survey and 29th in the survey of employers. NYU is a really great school if you want to be exposed to some outrageously smart professors, grad students, and peers. It is also an amazing hub of cultural resources in the city. NYU community is very savvy and sensitive to the zeitgeist, so it's a great place for someone who wants to stay on the cutting edge.

To get into NYU you will need a GPA of 3.69, NYU requires you to be above average in your high school class. You will need at least a mix of A's and B's, with more A's than B's. You can compensate for a lower GPA with harder classes, like AP or IB classes. The average ACT score at NYU is 32. This score makes NYU strongly competitive for ACT scores. The 25th percentile ACT score is 30, and the 75th percentile ACT score is 34. The average composite score is 1440, with the math section at 740, and the average reading&writing at 700. The 25th percentile composite score is 1370, and the math section at 690, and the reading&writing at 660.

University of Michigan--Ann Arbor

The University of Michigan often referred to as Michigan, is a public research university in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Carnegie Mellon University

Carnegie Mellon is a private research university based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was founded in 1900 by Andrew Carnegie as the Carnegie technical schools, the university became the Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1912 and began granting four-year degrees. The average cost before aid is $72,283, and the average cost after aid is $31,102. The acceptance rate is 22%, and the graduation rate is 88%.

Carnegie Mellon is one of the most competitive private colleges or universities in the US, with a 21.70% acceptance rate. You will need very good grades in high school to get into Carnegie Mellon University. The average high school GPA of the admitted freshman class at Carnegie Mellon University was 3.69 on the 4.0 scale indicating that primarily B+ students are accepted and ultimately attend. The average composite ACT score is 32-35, the 75th percentile for the math section is 35, for reading it is 35, and for writing it is 34. The average SAT composite score is 1510, the math section average is 780, and the reading&writing at 730. The 75th percentile composite is 1560, with the math section at 800, and the reading&writing at 1560. However, it should be noted that Carnegie Mellon University has adopted a test-optional policy for one year, removing the SAT/ACT standardized testing requirements for first-year Fall 2021 applicants.

Carnegie Mellon is known for its programs in science and technology, but its seven schools and colleges include the College of Fine Arts and the Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Carnegie Mellon is also ranked as a top-25 institution, world-renowned for its approach to education and research. Students become experts in fields ranging from business, the fine arts, and computer science to humanities, the sciences, and engineering. Carnegie Mellon is also an outstanding university. It has one fo the best, if not the best Theater Conservatories in the US. Each year 16 ale and 16 female theatrical artists are admitted into their pre-professional program with a fairly good assurance that they will have a career in the dramatic arts.

Emory students have the unique opportunity to learn from and work with faculty who, along with teaching is conducting groundbreaking research in the humanities, social to Emory's quiet historic neighborhood, Druid Hills.

The overall crime status of Emory is 334 incidents reported. Emory University reported 334 safety-related incidents involving students on or near campus or other Emory affiliated properties in 2018. Of the 4,210 colleges and universities that reported crime and safety data, 3,956 of them reported fewer incidents than this.

Rice University

William Marsh Rice University known as Rice University is located in Houston, Texan. Rice University is a private research university in Houston Texas. The university is situated on a 300-acre campus near the Houston Museum District and is adjacent to the Texas Medical Center. The average cost before aid is $65,150, the average cost after aid is $20,237. The acceptance rate is 16% and the graduation rate is 91%.

To get into Rice University you would need a GPA of 4.12, Rice University requires you to be at the top of your class. You will need nearly straight A's in all your classes to compete with other applicants. Furthermore, you should be taking hard classes (AP or IB courses) to show that college-level academics is a breeze. The average ACT score for Rice is 34, this score makes Rice University extremely competitive for ACT scores. The 25th percentile ACT score is 33, and the 75th percentile ACT score is 35. The average SAT composite score is 1505, with the math section at 775, and the reading&writing 730. The 25th percentile composite score is 1450, with the math section at 750, and reading&writing at 700.

Rice University is most known for its academic life. The most popular majors at Rice University include Computer and Information Sciences, General; Chemical Engineering; Economics, General; Kinesiology and Excercise Science; and Mechanical Engineering. Rice is also noted for its applied science programs in the fields of artificial heart research, structural chemical analysis, signal processing, space science, and nanotechnology. In 2010, it was ranked first in the world in materials science research by Times Higher Education (THE). Another unique thing about Rice is its college system. It is similar to the Greek system but without the fees, the college system allows a random assortment of students, of all areas of study, to live together in their "college" or dorm for their entire undergraduate career.

Vanderbilt University

Vanderbilt University is a private university located in Nashville, Tennessee. Founded in 1873, it was named in honor of shipping and rail magnate Cornelius Vanderbilt, who provided the school its initial $1-million endowment. The average cost before aid is $70,146, the average cost after aid is $19,959. The acceptance rate is 11%, and the graduation rate is 92%. Last year, 3,298 out of 34,313 applicants were admitted making Vanderbilt an extremely competitive school to get into with a very low chance of acceptance - even for applicants with the highest scores and grades. 

The average GPA of students accepted into Vanderbilt is 3.8 out of 4.0. That means that you will have to be the best of your class, it also requires that you have almost entirely A's on your transcript for the duration of your high school career. The average ACT score for students at Vanderbilt consist of 32-35. The average SAT score for math is 745, for reading is 730, and the composite is 1475. 

Vanderbilt University is top-ranked in both academics and financial aid, Vanderbilt offers an immersive living-learning undergraduate experience, with programs in the liberal arts and sciences, engineering, music, education and human development. Vanderbilt University is known for being one of of the top universities in the country and is probably best known for their undergraduate pre-med program, medical school, and top research facilities. With that being said, Vanderbilt offers a lot more than just a stepping stone to med school.

Johns Hopkins University is a private research university in Baltimore, Maryland. Founded in 1876, the university was named for its first benefactor, the American entrepreneur, abolitionist, and philanthropist Johns Hopkins. The average cost before aid is $71,901, the average cost after aid is $33,586. The acceptance rate is 13%, and the graduation rate is 94%.

Johns Hopkins University is best known among the general public and in popular culture for its professional schools of medicine and public health, ts hospital, and for its lacrosse teams. The most popular majors at Johns Hopkins University include Neuroscience; Public Health, General; Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering; Cell/Cellular and Molecular Biology; and Computer and Information Sciences, General. The best thing about Johns Hopkins was that while learning from some of the most qualified professors in the world, you also learn how to be an adult, to challenge yourself, and fulfill your full potential in life. Hopkins forces its students to take a leap of faith into the unknown.

To get into Johns Hopkins you will need very good grades in high school, the average high school GPA of the admitted freshman class at John Hopkins was 3.74 on the 4.0 scale indicating that primarily A- students are accepted and ultimately attend. The average SAT score to get into Johns Hopkins is 1520 out of 1600. The average composite ACT score is 34 out of 36.

Northwestern University

Northwestern University is a 4-year private research institution in the Chicago area. Northwestern is home to 12 colleges and schools and is renowned for its Medill School of Journalism, Kelloff School of Management, and Bienen School of Music. Northwestern is located in Evanston, Illinois, it was founded in 1851 by nine men whose goal was to establish a university that would serve the former Northwest Territory. The average cost before aid is $74,649 and after aid is $24,047. The acceptance rate is 9%, and the graduation rate is 93%.

Northwestern is one of the most competitive private colleges or universities in the US, with a 10.70% acceptance rate, an average of 1480 on the SAT, an average of 33 on the ACT, and a rough average weighted GPA of 4. You will need very good grades in high school to get into Northwestern College. The average high school GPA of the admitted freshman class at Northwestern College was 3.53 on the 4.0 scale indicating that primarily B+ students are accepted and ultimately attend.
